How long have you been doing photography? I have been shooting weddings since 2009.  Seven whole years!  Ooofta!!! You can read more about my story here .

What type of photography do you specialize in? In the 7 years that I have been shooting, I specialize in documenting weddings.  I have photographed families and babies but in all my years I have never photographed even one senior session. I plan to keep it that way ;–P

How would you describe your style? This questions gets me every time. I’ve always described my style as a photojournalist (I know a word that’s over used) look but with gentle direction from myself.  I also like to capture the details of your wedding day.  Who doesn’t!

What type of camera do you shoot on?  I shoot on a Canon Mark II & III

If you had to choose one lens to shoot with all day, what would you choose?  This is a toss up.  I would have to choose between the 50mm 1.2 or 35mm 1.4. Since we are most likely shooting a wedding in this question, I would go with the 35mm.  This would allow me to get room shots or large group shots as well as fun portrait shots.  Either one could get the job done.  So I’m golden either way.

Favorite photography computer program? Photo Mechanic. It makes culling 4000 images from a wedding day a billion times faster.

Scariest or craziest thing that has happened at a wedding? I will go with a little scary and a little crazy.  This story happened when I was second shooting.  Keep in mind I had rented the 24-70mm lens for this wedding. I had just arrived at the cocktail hour and I was getting my gear ready. I pulled out my 24-70 and it was like in slow motion.  The lens flew out of my hands onto the floor.  Ummmm….yeah.  My life and my finances flashed before my eyes. Mostly my finances.  I was freaking out inside.  Other side note, I did not have insurance on this rented lens. I quickly picked up the lens put it on my camera to do a quick check.  Sure enough, something had shifted internally.  UGH!  I decided I couldn’t think about it while I working this wedding.  I needed to just move on and worry about this later.  But really all I could think about was having to purchase another lens for the rental company.  Long story short, I called the company the next day and told them what happened.  Lucky me, I only had to pay for the damage repairs.  Phew!

What inspires you or gives you motivation? Chip and Joanna.  Just kidding.  That was really trendy of me to say :P. But I do really like them and cannot wait to have my own shiplap barn house of my own.  I would say mornings with my precious baby girl and homemade lattes gives me daily motivation.  What inspires me currently is listening to podcasts, looking through interior design magazines and riding horses.

What advice do you have for people wanting to pursue wedding photography? I would say first, you do not need to attend college for photography.  If you have an eye for framing you can learn the rest on your own.  I suggest photographing everything.  If you have kids, photography them. If you have pets, photography them.  Practice photographing and documenting moments.  Also seek out a photographer that you enjoy their work. Meet up with them and pick their brain. You never know where that might lead.

What would be your dream wedding to photograph? My dream wedding would be in a white shiplapped barn. The style of the wedding would be boho chic and the flowers would be in abundance. I mean flowers EVERYWHERE.  The couple would let me photograph them only for 2 hours and we would sneak out for the most amazing sunset session where they would include their horses.

What would you like to be doing in 5 years?
I would like to be shooting 20 weddings a season, taking care of my babies, riding my horses and decorating my beautiful barn house.

Besides being a photographer, what else do you enjoy doing? I taught myself how to knit a year ago today. That was the best thing I could have done.  It is so relaxing and it makes me feel all warm and cozy.  I also like spending time with horses. I took up horse lessons last year before I was pregnant and that was life changing.  My husband and I hope to have horses of our own one day.

So I hear that you have 6 dogs.  Why do many?   Haha. It’s true, it’s true.  We have 6 lovely dogs.  Two of them are our only house dogs.  Juice (boston terrier) and Shelby (lab).  The other 4 are English Shorthaired Pointers.  Their my husbands hunting dogs.  Archie, Maple, Spruce and Cedar.

There you have it, a blurb about me.  If you have another question ask it in the comment section below.
